HOLY WEEK IS OUR SPECIAL TIME – a time for putting the non essentials to one side.  Life has to go on, of course, but we can waste a lot of time with our troubled inner world.  If you have a troubled inner world, if you lack peace of soul then come to the Mass of Reconciliation on Monday at 7.30 p.m. Canon Griffiths will be here as well as myself after the Mass should you feel the need, for any reason, to come to individual Confession.  That’s the best way to begin Holy Week, by remembering that what Our Lord won for us is freely available through the Mass and the Sacraments.

THE PROCESSION OF WITNESS on Good Friday morning.  Those who want to give a witness to Our Lord on Good Friday are asked to muster outside the Library at the top of the High Street at 11.00 a.m.  The procession will then proceed to the War Memorial in Market Square for a short service.  Hot Cross buns will be served afterwards.

THE HUMAN FERTILISATION & EMBRYOLOGY BILL has just completed its passage through the House of Lord and will soon be debated in the House of Commons.  Archbishop Murphy O’Connor has written ‘The Bill extends the scope of scientific research on human embryos and even allows the creation of animal and human hybrid embryos for research.  It removes a provision to have regard for the child’s need for a father when IVF methods are used.  And there is every chance that there will be attempts in the House of Commons to use this Bill as a vehicle to liberalise the abortion law still further.’  He urges us all to write to (or better still go and meet with) your local MP to register our concern about this Bill.  MP’s should also be allowed to be granted a free vote on those parts of the Bill which deals with fundamental issues of personal conscience.  The Archbishop concludes ‘During this time of Lent we are encouraged to reflect on our own lives and to rededicate ourselves as Christians to serving the Gospel in our world.  Taking action on this pr4ssing issue now helps to remind us that our Christian witness can never just be personal but involves us too as citizens committed to serving the common good of society and to upholding the human dignity of all’.

THE GREAT EASTER CLEAN will take place on Wednesday, 19th March after the 10.00 a.m. Mass.  All are welcome to take part – the more people who come and help the less time it will take.   Please see notice in the narthex.

DEVELOPMENT DRAW WINNERS.  Congratulations to Pat and Albert Rigby and to John Roach who won February’s prize draw.

TRAIDCRAFT RAFFLE.  Congratulations to the winners of the Traidcraft Hamper Raffle: 1st prize to Rex Kidd and 2nd prize to Kath Beavil.  Thanks to everyone who bought raffle tickets and for supporting this year’s project – rehabilitation of child soldiers in Sierra Leone.  The raffle raised £404.  Also, congratulations to Marie Pennell who completed the half marathon in France.  If you were good enough to sponsor Marie she will be collecting the sponsorship money after each Mass this weekend.  Proceeds to the Cafod project.

RISBOROUGH CARES.  The AGM of the Risborough Cares Charity will be held on 27th March at 7.00 p.m. at the Community Day Centre in Clifford Road.  All welcome.

MONEY  MONEY  Offertory  £771.26, Retiring £18.64 and CAFOD  £14.00.  On Good Friday there is the usual Special Collection for the Shrines in the Holy Land and the collection at the Easter Masses is the customary Easter offering for your poor old priest.  God bless your support of your Church and of your priest.

Love and prayers,
