HOLY WEEK IS OUR SPECIAL TIME – a time for putting the non
essentials to one side. Life has to go
on, of course, but we can waste a lot of time with our troubled inner
world. If you have a troubled inner world,
if you lack peace of soul then come to the Mass of Reconciliation on Monday at
THE PROCESSION OF WITNESS on Good Friday morning. Those who want to give a witness to Our Lord
on Good Friday are asked to muster outside the Library at the top of the High
Street at
THE HUMAN FERTILISATION & EMBRYOLOGY BILL has just completed its passage through
the House of Lord and will soon be debated in the House of Commons. Archbishop Murphy O’Connor has written ‘The
Bill extends the scope of scientific research on human embryos and even allows
the creation of animal and human hybrid embryos for research. It removes a provision to have regard for the
child’s need for a father when IVF methods are used. And there is every chance that there will be
attempts in the House of Commons to use this Bill as a vehicle to liberalise
the abortion law still further.’ He
urges us all to write to (or better still go and meet with) your local MP to
register our concern about this Bill.
MP’s should also be allowed to be granted a free vote on those parts of
the Bill which deals with fundamental issues of personal conscience. The Archbishop concludes ‘During this time of
Lent we are encouraged to reflect on our own lives and to rededicate ourselves
as Christians to serving the Gospel in our world. Taking action on this pr4ssing issue now
helps to remind us that our Christian witness can never just be personal but
involves us too as citizens committed to serving the common good of society and
to upholding the human dignity of all’.
THE GREAT EASTER CLEAN will take place on Wednesday, 19th
March after the 10.00 a.m. Mass. All are
welcome to take part – the more people who come and help the less time it will
take. Please see notice in the narthex.
