POOR ACCOUNTING If Jesus, when telling His parable, had reported the landowner as paying the current hourly rate but at the same time making generous donations to those in need, there would be no problem with today’s parable of the workers in the vineyard. It is because the money is described as pay that we think we can earn our reward from God. In fact, God, like the landowner is generous to those in need.
HOME MISSION SUNDAY 18th SEPTEMBER is when we pray for the work of evangelisation and reflect on our response to the Lord’s invitation to share our faith. The theme this year is ‘Fresh wind in our sails’ which is what the Holy Father is reported to have said on his visit to the U.K. We give thanks for the Pope’s visit but we also focus on the future, reflecting on where we are being called to set sail to, reinvigorated for our ongoing missionary journey in England and Wales. Today’s Retiring collection is for Home Missions.
FIRST ANNIVERSARY OF PAPAL VISIT As we celebrate the anniversary of Pope Benedict’s visit we are called to re-establish our Catholic identity. The bishops have reintroduced Friday abstinence. That is, because Friday is the day Jesus died on the Cross, all Catholics over the age of fourteen are to refrain from eating meat on this day. (Websites for Anniversary leaflets see notice in the Narthex)
TOGETHER IN FAITH Tuesday 20th September 7.30 pm Bishop Peter is coming to Princes Risborough with some of the “Together in Faith” Team and will be giving more information and an update on the progress so far. All parishioners are invited to attend. The meeting and reception will take place in the Walsingham Hall. There will be refreshments at the reception and if you are able to supply a plate or two of finger food we would be most grateful, please speak to Anne Bowe or Anne Harding, Thank you.
TOGETHER IN FAITH NOW STANDS AT £70,000 from 19 gifts, reflecting over 50% towards our target of £130,000.
Over
the coming weeks, volunteers will be available to answer your questions. If you
would like to make a pledge, please speak with one of them after Mass. You can
also ring me or call Anne Bowe 01844 343850, Anne Harding 01844 346818 or
Deacon Sean 01844 343705. Thank you all for your commitment and support and a
heartfelt thank you goes to those parishioners who
have given freely of their time towards Together in Faith.
CONFESSION AND COMMUNION CLASSES Will begin next Saturday (24th) at 9.00am in the Narthex, (parents in Ker Anna, cottage next to Walsingham Hall, with Deacon Sean) Enrolment service for the families will take place within the 10.00am Mass on Sunday 25th September. Red enrolment forms are in the Narthex with a list of dates for this term attached. Completed forms should be returned to the Presbytery. For further information contact Sue Bolton 343424.
ST SCHOLASTICA’S RETREAT an almshouse for Catholics that moved to our Parish in 1970, is celebrating over the coming year the 150th anniversary of its foundation in Clapton, Hackney. On 24th September 1861 Cardinal Wiseman laid the foundation stone and on 24th September 1862 the first beneficiaries of the charity were appointed. This coming Friday, 23rd September, Bishop Peter and invited guests will be joining the Trustees and current residents for a celebratory meal that will be preceded by a Mass of Thanksgiving in the church at 11.00am to which all are welcome. There will still be the usual Mass at Ker Maria at 4.00pm that day.
AS PART OF THE PARISH “LITTLE WAY WEEK” St Teresa’s School will be holding their annual Community Day on Friday September 30th from 8.30am to 3.30pm. The focus this year will be “Roses”, with particular emphasis on the life of our Patron Saint. All the parish children of Primary School age are invited to take part. If there are any parishioners over the age of 18 who feel drawn to share their love of St Teresa with the church of tomorrow and can spare an hour or more on that day please contact Jean O’Brien at the School 01844 345005.
