ARCHBISHOP PETER
SMITH the successor to our
Bishop Kevin McDonald, as Archbishop
of Southwark on being interviewed about his new job, has said: “We can be
overwhelmed by the criticisms about our beliefs and way of life. We have to
remember that whatever the culture, the Lord doesn’t abandon his church. He
agrees that there is an aggressive secularism that would like to see religion
relegated to the private sphere. Maybe the Holy Spirit is telling us that we’ve
been too complacent in recent years; we have too readily accepted the culture of
the day and it is now turning against us. There are many good people in our
society who are not fanatics, but they are rather indifferent. This is where we
have to sink our roots deeper to give us courage, and determination to stand our
ground, to express our beliefs and not to be afraid”
We cannot do this on
our own. But we have that same Holy Spirit who inspired and empowered the
Apostles and early Christians, to turn our society upside down as they did. I am
sure it will help a lot of people to see that they are not just living organisms
without a destiny or purpose of existence. Please remember Archbishop Peter and
our Archbishop Kevin, who had to retire for health reasons, in your
prayers.
NOW THAT YOU HAVE
TAKEN YOUR FIRST HOLY COMMUNION you are now ready to
serve on the altar if you would like to.
If anyone, young or
not so young, would like to serve on the altar just come along to the church at
9.15am next Sunday (27th) to meet with Nick Jepson. All we ask is
that servers commit to serve for at least one year. We need servers to cover all
Masses so serving is certainly not just restricted to the 10.00am Mass on a
Sunday. You can contact Nick on 01494 891520 or email him on njepson@btinternet.com
