EXCITING TIMES for our 6th Formers who are off to University
in the Autumn. It is a great blessing to be given the opportunity to enter the
academic world; to meet new people and make new friends. A good home and a good
parish can show wonderful results – the chief of which in my experience, is
stability in the face of the new challenges offered by the University.I
hope our young people have come to look upon their parish as, in many respects,
their second home – where the door is always open to them and where they find a
warm respectful welcome. If they are fortunate enough to have a good Catholic
Chaplaincy where they are going – they will meet lots of young Catholics who
share their faith and give them an opportunity to learn more about the
scriptures and the Church’s teaching. Our Catholic faith needs to grow in the
same way that our understanding of secular subjects does. The University
Catholic Chaplaincy can do so much to help. Personally I found the Chaplaincy
and the Chaplain at
WE SHALL SOON begin a new year for catechists – our young
people need to be prepared for First Holy Communion (preceded by First
Confession) and then Confirmation. Nick Jepson aided by Jean O’Brien is always
willing to train the young to become Altar Servers after their First Holy
Communion. Everyone concerned with the teaching and pastoral care of our young
people in the parish needs to be C.R.B. checked. This is a legal requirement.
Phil Hughes assisted by Stephanie Bucknall are working together to ensure that
we keep the law. Thank you Phil and Stephanie for taking on
this responsibility. I shall be writing to all concerned to let them
know about a meeting on October 6th in the school reception area.
ANOTHER LITTLE SEASIDE BREAK for your poor old priest. I am off for
a few days to Aldeburgh. If you need a priest urgently please contact one of
the Deacons. By taking breaks I hope and pray that I shall be able to keep
going for quite a while but I think it is only fair and reasonable to assume
that at the age of 73 and having had a stroke I can’t expect to carry the burdon of responsibility for very much longer.
CANON JOHN UDRIS will be here next Saturday morning to
talk to us about St. Teresa
of The Child Jesus. John is quite an expert and has a lovely easy style. As
announced already the timetable has changed – we meet at 10.30 for some
refreshments and John will begin at 11.00am. The occasion will end at 12.45pm.
CONGRATULATIONS to the winners of Augusts monthly draw
