ONE STEP ENOUGH FOR ME.  I have been reading St. Thomas More – his Godly Meditation and Devout Prayer, written in the Tower of London before his martyrdom.  Wonderful stuff.  If you would like a copy just ask Barbara.  I have also derived a lot of comfort from Cardinal Newman’s wonderful hymn ‘Lead Kindly Light’ which was written when, after a lot of turmoil, he had decided that the Catholic Church was the ‘one fold of Christ’.  He left security, esteem, honour, privilege to become a Catholic … “I do not ask to see the distant scene … one step enough for me”.  Illness is a grace.  I have always known that theologically, now I begin to know it experientially as well.  Thank you for your love and support.  You have mine.  I shall share insights and discoveries with you as best I can.  One thing is certain.  There has been a bit of improvement in my ability to read.  When you read this I shall, please God, be returned from a few days in Cardiff and a little contact with the sea.  Hooray!

THIS COMING WEEK  I shall try to say Mass in the church each week day.  We need to proceed cautiously but I think I can do this.  If for any reason I can’t do this then Word & Communion will replace the Mass.

FIRST CONFESSION AND FIRST HOLY COMMUNION.  Children from Year 3 may begin their formal preparation for Confession and Holy Communion.  Parents, please see the enrolment forms in the Narthex and, after completing one for your son or daughter, please return to the presybery by 11th September.  The date for the First Holy Communion Mass will be Sunday, 18th June, 2006.

PARENTS IN THE PARISH.  In previous years parents from the First Holy Communion Programme have wanted to meet three or four times a year to support one another as parents in fostering their own and their children’s faith.  There will be four meetings in 2005/2006.  The first of these will be on 20th September from 7 – 9 p.m. in the Walsingham Hall.  The first topic will be on ‘Prayer and the Family’.  The evening will consist of a religious input followed by informal discussion over a glass of wine.

HELP WITH THE CHILDREN’S CATECHETICAL DEVELOPMENT.  The clipboard is now in the Narthex – please sign your name if you can help in any way.

MONEY MONEY.  Offertory £801.88, Retiring Collection £39.37 and Cafod £9.00.  God bless your generosity to your Church.

Love and best wishes

(Fr. Gerald)
