I AM PLEASED to hear that there was a good turn
out for the Service of Word and Holy Communion last Monday – the first of my
regular Mondays off. That’s
splendid! The Church is changing. There is great scope, indeed need, for lay
people to play a part in the life of the Church. We can learn together how to do it and show
each other the way. Always, of course,
in full communion with Our Lord who is the Way. I will seek a way to consult with you about
this – either through the Pastoral Council (I am very conscious that we have
not had a meeting for ages) or a Parish meeting – I know that some parishes
find these very helpful. If you have any
thoughts about how we can best proceed please remember that I am always ready
to see any parishioner for a chat or, if you prefer, you could have a word with
one of the deacons who will report back to me on what you say.
THINGS ARE VERY SERIOUS!
Dear old Bishop Parker, who older parishioners will remember, often used
to say this when addressing congregations.
He was not too specific about how or why things were serious but we took
it on board and felt that we had to watch out and try harder. Well they are very serious now – terrible
global problems, huge inequality, unstable governments, starvation and dreadful
living conditions for so many. WHAT CAN
WE DO? I think we should be true to our
Catholic faith and make sure that our friends and neighbours know that we are
Catholic … we are disciples of Jesus. We
should fulfil our duty to our family and friends and to our parish. When times are bad we have to try
harder. Non-Christians see us as a
fading and disappearing entity. We have
to change that. Things are very serious!
THE CAFOD PROJECT GROUP
would like to thank
the Faith, Fun and Friendship C|ub (ST T’s FC Group) for the £108.00 they raised toward
this year’s Child Soldiers Project.
You did a great job creating the items you sold and by running “name the teddy”
and “guess how many sweets are in the jar”. Thank you all very much.
THE NEXT CAFOD MEETING Will be this Monday the 9th of June at 7.30pm in the clubroom. New members always welcome.
MONTHLY DRAW.
Congratulations
to Bernard Crawley and Helen Brown who
won first and second prize in the May
