REPARATION AND ATONEMENT The scale and horror of
recent scandals in our church have
made the past month or so a difficult time to be a Catholic. The shame, the
shock and the disappointment with errant individuals and the cover-ups by the
institution have upset us all deeply. However, the sheer numbers who attended
Holy week and Easter services have given us hope. The exodus from our churches
predicted by the media has not happened. While saddened by what has occurred,
most Catholics have not lost faith in Jesus Christ, or in their local church or
their local priest.
But as our Bishop’s
have written in their statement; ‘we are all bound together in the body of
Christ, the sins of the few touch us all’ We are asked to devote time to prayer
and petition before the Blessed Sacrament in reparation and atonement to God,
our loving Father.
On Friday the
14th May, from 7.30 to 8.30pm there will be a Holy hour with
Exposition, prayers and Benediction. Please try to be there, if at all
possible. The Lord will bless us.
