Generally
members of ‘Senior’ STYG have ‘graduated’ from
‘Junior’ STYG, but that’s NOT an essential qualification
for joining! Its purpose is to offer young people of 14+ continuing
contact with the Parish and with others of their age group, whether
or not they come to Mass.
From
the spiritual point of view, Senior STYG aims to provide opportunities
to consider and discuss serious issues, including current affairs, to
attend courses, conferences and retreats and both to attend and to help
organise special ‘youth’ celebrations and liturgies (at
Parish, Diocese, National or International level!).
Some
members contribute actively to the life of the Parish; individuals serve
Mass, have taken part in a fast for Kosovo and have contributed energetically
to a Parish Concert as part of the Risborough Festival. We hope to build
on these activities and “do something dramatic” for Christmas!
On
the social side, Senior STYG meetings happen in an environment of mutual
respect, where young people can be themselves, catch up on what’s
happening in each others lives and in the news, and relax. As well as
numerous games of mixed-football in the park over the road, Senior STYG
has organised group outings, including to the cinema, bowling and swimming.
At
present, Senior STYG is a relatively small group who would warmly welcome
new members. Meetings are held fortnightly in Ker Anna from 7.00 to
9.00 pm on Friday nights during term time. These could be more frequent
if members wish.
In
the end, Senior STYG is, and will continue to be, what its members make
it.
If
you’re interested, just turn up at a meeting or, for further information
