FATHER MISHECK from the Diocese of Ndola in Zambia is paying us a brief visit this weekend.  I know you will be pleased to see him again and to listen to him.

WONDERFUL NEWS!  Cardinal John Henry Newman is soon to be beatified ….. the final stage before being declared a Saint. Well done all those who have prayed to John Henry Newman and prayed that he would be canonised,  Quintessentially English, educated at Oxford, a brave worker for the poor, founder of the National University of Ireland and very close to his dear heart, founder of the Birmingham Oratory. He has been close to me lately because he said, somewhere, that the Rosary was a good prayer for when we did not have the ability to do much else.  Reading, my great joy, is not all that easy for me now but I can pray the rosary. It is not just a pile of Hail Mary’s …. But a way of getting close to God’s plan to send his Son into the world – through the willingness of Mary …. More about this soon.

I SHALL BE AWAY FOR A SHORT BREAK  this coming week. Let’s hope that the weather bucks up!  Most priests tend to take their three Sundays in the year off in one go – i.e. be away for four weeks. That’s not so easy to do these days as I am dependent on others to drive me – and of course arrange for supply priests to cover at weekends. So off I go for a few days this week and the following week I shall be going again, with parishioners to Lisieux, for a few days with our patron saint.

PLANNED GIVING   if you are not in our planned giving scheme please have a word with me or one of the deacons. It is a simple matter to let you have envelopes or a standing order form….which ensures that the parish is supported even if you are away on holiday.

THE C.A.F.O.D. PROJECT GROUP  (just in case you were away last week) Will be hosting a Garden Party in the Presbytery garden on Saturday, 30th August at 4.00pm. Tickets will be on sale this weekend and over the next two weeks after each of the weekend Masses or you can reserve tickets by calling Paula on 01844 273134. Tickets – Adults (12 & older) £5, Children £2.50. All proceeds will be going towards the Rehabilitation of Child Soldiers Project

MONEY MONEY   Offertory £629.87, Retiring Collection £28.57, Cafod £2.00. God bless your support for your Church.

Love and prayers,
