ST TERESA’S PASTORAL COUNCIL is alive and well but in need of renewing. Margaret Cripps, Theresa Aldis and Sean Duffy have been meeting with me in the
Presbytery to see how best to give our Pastoral Council a sense of its identity
and to define its purpose. We have had a Pastoral Council ever since I came to
the parish and there was the makings of one before
that. Church law lays down that a Pastoral Council should be consultative not
executive – the executive is vested in the parish priest but I have always
believed that a good parish priest will rely heavily on the help and advice of
his parishioners. The parish priest can be a rather solitary figure without the
active help of his parishioners – to paraphrase Cardinal Newman the clergy (Episcopat) would look quite silly without the laity. The
Pastoral Council plays or should play a big part in the sense the parish has of
itself – put another way, in my view, where there is a good parish with a good
feel about it …a good cohesion …you are likely to find a good Pastoral Council.
To ensure that the Pastoral Council is fulfilling its purpose and that its
members who are chosen by me, are happy with how things work in our parish, there
will be a special meeting of the Pastoral Council on 2nd November
after the 7.00pm Mass. I shall be writing to the members and possibly one or
two others over the next week or so. May I ask them and all parishioners to
enlist St Teresa of the Child Jesus to help so that we may all act wisely and
for the common good of us all – very specially also that we shall do all we can
to be the Real Presence of Jesus to all those around us who do not know Him as
Saviour and Lord.
ST TERESA’S CHURCH CHRISTMAS FEST as usual at this time of year every
year you will find a large box in the Narthex for all donations to this great
fund raising event.
If you can, we need new toys for the
children’s tombola, bottles for the SVP and school tombola, Tins of biscuits,
chocolates and plants and bottles for the raffle. Thank you for always
supporting this event with such generosity, good will and enthusiasm. Raffle tickets
will be available this week end at all masses, so please help by taking some
after Mass and returning the signed tickets with your payment
as soon as possible. Thank you again
for your support.
OUR CONFIRMATION CANDIDATES begin their sacramental programme this Sunday at 5.00pm in the
Walsingham Hall. Their Mass of enrolment will be on
Sunday 22nd November at the 10.00am Youth Mass for Christ the King
where they will each be presented with a copy of the New Testament. Please pray
for our young candidates as they gradually develop in love and commitment for
their faith.
THE CAFOD BARN DANCE and ploughmans
supper will take place on Saturday 14th November at 7.30pm in the Walsingham Hall. It will be a great night for all the
family, you can dance as little or as much as you like! Tickets go on sale next
week end after all the week end Masses. Tickets cost £10.00 for adults and
£5.00 for children under 12 or you can reserve tickets by calling Paula on
01844 273134.
ADVENT SERVICE will take place this year on Sunday 6th
December. As usual the Sunday choir and Saturday group are looking for
additional singers to join rehearsals for this service, so please speak to any
member of the choir. We will also perform a rendering of the Advent Poem
written by John Betjeman and so we are inviting interested adults who would
like to take part. If you would like to be
involved please speak to Helen Brown or
Deacon Brian Stoker.
MONEY, MONEY. Offertory £544.42. Retiring Collection £14.51. CAFOD £2.00.
God Bless your support and
generosity for your Church.
