THANK GOD  for the fine weather. My few days with my family in Cardiff was spent in lovely weather and we had lots of walks by the sea. Increasingly my thoughts turn to having some time relieved of the cares of parish life when I can make my soul with the help of the Holy Spirit. I hope you will feel as I do that our last days, whenever they come are specially blessed. Our life and faith nourished by the sacraments, and the scriptures can teach us that faith is about Some One, Our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. I remind myself often of what a distinguished academic said to me on his death bed when I was a young curate in Cambridge. I asked him if he would like to receive Holy Communion and he replied “Yes, very much, the Lord” He died within an hour of receiving Our Lord for the last time. What a way to go! I pray for you and for myself that we shall have the grace to ask for the Lord on our death bed. Jesus came that we may have eternal life by giving His life….becoming like Him, the Bread of Life. We come today to the end of St. John’s wonderful chapter 6 on the Eucharist…the Bread of Life, Himself.

HOLY WATER  you will have noticed that there is no Holy water in the stoops. This is because of Bishop Peter’s advice to the parishes to not use the holy water stoops as a precaution during the swine flu pandemic. Thank you for your understanding. If you would like some holy water come to the sacristy after Mass with your own container filled with water which I shall bless or empty to be re filled with water which I have already blessed.

C.A.F.O.D. PROJECT GROUP MEETING  There will be a meeting this Monday evening (24th August) at 7.30pm in the Clubroom. Any new members will be made very welcome.

NORES (NORTHAMPTON OFFICE FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION)

Is running a course in the major areas of Catholic theology which includes modules such as catechetics and religious education, social teaching and pastoral ministry. This course is an excellent way of supporting people who are taking an active interest in parish life and is certainly in line with the changes being introduced by Bishop Peter’s vision. Please consider this important invitation. The parish can provide financial support for anyone wishing to attend. Further information is on the notice board in the Narthex and do ask me if you wish to discuss the idea further. Thank you, Celia Sparkes.

MONEY, MONEY.  Offertory £724.14. Retiring Collection £27.19. CAFOD £2.00. God Bless your support and generosity for your Church.
