THE PAPAL VISIT  Pope Benedict will visit the United Kingdom from 16th to 19th September 2010. This will be a most historic event, the equivalent of a state visit. Her Majesty the Queen is the official host of the visit. She will greet Pope Benedict XVI and welcome him to Britain formally. The Cabinet Secretary wrote to the Archbishop of Westminster: “The Papal visit is a unique event for the U.K. and will bring immeasurable benefits……” Many parishioners will remember the visit of Pope John Paul II when he came in 1982. He came as leader of the Catholic Church, to greet and address the Catholic Community here. He celebrated Mass before huge gatherings in many parts of the U.K. He also visited the Queen at Buckingham Palace as an honoured guest and the Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Robert Runcie.

The visit of Pope Benedict will be different. He will take part in ecumenical and inter-religious meetings and will declare Cardinal John Henry Newman ‘Blessed’. But he comes primarily as honoured guest of Her Majesty and a visitor to all the people of the U.K. and will speak to the nation as a whole on more than one occasion.

There are signs that the visit is finally taking shape. The organisers are working hard to tie up the loose ends and sort out logistical difficulties. We hope to have some details next week.

FIRST HOLY COMMUNION PHOTOGRAPH’S    taken in the church and in the marquee are now available for viewing or purchasing. You will find them in the narthex where you will also find the forms necessary to purchase any of them.

WELL DONE TO OUR VERY OWN ST.T’s FC   who raised an amazing £337.20  for The Musha Community in Rwanda by putting on a table top sale in the Hall last weekend, and well done to all the parishioner’s who went into the hall and bought something from them. Thank you.

THIS WEEKEND IS THE LAST CHANCE   to buy tickets for the CAFOD Project BBQ taking place on Sunday, 4th July in the Presbytery garden. Tickets will be on sale in the narthex after all the weekend Masses. If you are unable to get your ticket this weekend and would like to purchase one please contact Paula on 01844 273134.

HELP NEEDED  The CAFOD Project group will set up in preparation for the BBQ after the 6.30pm Mass next Saturday evening. If there are any able bodied helpers who could carry chairs and tables from the hall to the garden and help the group to put up the gazebo’s it would be very much appreciated. Thank you.

ST TERESA’S ROMAN CATHOLIC SCHOOL   As a result of new government regulations, St Teresa’s Catholic School can now offer some free sessions for three and four year olds (they will be funded by the government.) Please take a look at the enclosed flyer. The School would like to offer these places to people within the parish before making it more widely known. Please feel free to contact the School for more information on 01844 345005.

S.T.Y.L.E.  youth group will meet up next Friday (2nd July) in the Presbytery Garden and (weather permitting) will have a BBQ, if you haven’t been before, then next Friday would be a great time for you to join them.
