BISHOP PETER HAS APPOINTED FATHER JOHN WHITE   to be Parish Priest here at St. Teresa’s from the summer of this year. Father John is a priest of  the Westminster Diocese and has been the Parish Priest of St Patrick’s, Hendon and has also had a number of appointments in the Westminster Diocese. He has been loaned to our Diocese for three years and Bishop Peter  felt that Princes Risborough would be a good Parish for him to be in. Father John hopes to take up his appointment on 17th July.

FROM HEADLINES IN THE MEDIA   it seems many Catholics and others will be unable to

attend papal events when Pope Benedict comes here in September. Numbers are restricted by health and safety rules. It tells a sad story of how over-regulated our society has become since the days of Pope John Paul’s visit in 1982. We may not be able to attend an event but there are other ways of supporting this historic state visit. We could line the streets in London where the motorcade will pass once we the know the details in advance. In Portugal, Pope Benedict was overwhelmed by the crowds that assembled spontaneously. No doubt people wanted to show support for their Pope who had been subjected to so much undeserved criticism this year.

Now it is up to us in Britain, for Catholics to come out in droves to show their love and respect for the successor of St. Peter. It is an opportunity to stand up, be counted, to clap, shout and cheer or sing for Pope Benedict XVI who will be in our midst from 16-19th September 2010.
