THE ASSUMPTION OF THE BLESSED VIGIN MARY  is celebrated next Sunday. The dogma was defined in 1950 but from the earliest times the disciples of Jesus believed that Mary, because she was the Mother of God was taken body and soul to heaven. The Assumption is for us to marvel at and to celebrate in joyful hope, the fact that we shall meet Mary in heaven if we lead good lives. It is an opportunity for us to renew our affection for Mary and our gratitude to her for the part she played in our redemption.  It is an astonishing miracle of grace that Mary said yes when the Angel Gabriel put it to her that she would be the Mother of the Saviour - “Be it done unto me according to your word”

THE VISIT OF FATHER JOHN UDRIS   on September 5th. John has asked to come in the morning rather than the afternoon; so the timetable for his visit, which is to help us focus on the relics of St Teresa, will be 10.30am gather for tea/coffee.  11 to 1pm John’s talk.   He is quite an expert on our patron saint and will be well worth listening to – as most parishioners know from his previous visit.

FATHER TOM KENNY  arrives this week and will stay until the following week. I hope to be away for about a week and I am grateful to Tom for making this possible.

NORES (NORTHAMPTON OFFICE FOR RELIGIOUS EDUCATION)  is running a course in the major areas of Catholic theology which includes modules such as catechetics and religious education, social teaching and pastoral ministry. This course is an excellent way of supporting people who are taking an active interest in parish life and is certainly in line with the changes being introduced by Bishop Peter’s vision. Please consider this important invitation. The parish can provide financial support for anyone wishing to attend. Further information is on the notice board in the Narthex and do ask me if you wish to discuss the idea further (Celia Sparkes). The course is run on a Saturday from 10.00am to 3.30pm and will be held in Luton.
