THIS WEEK MARKS A SPECIAL OCCASION FOR
OUR PARISH
At all of this weekends Masses you have been hearing about an important effort that will have a direct impact on our parish, the lives of our priests, on-going vocations, future pastoral areas and the involvement of the laity. For 160 years, the Diocese of Northampton has been serving the spiritual needs of Roman Catholics in this region. Today, our Diocese encompasses 72 parishes, organised into 13 pastoral areas, including 175,000 Roman Catholics. The Diocese is growing and changing in many ways – Mass attendance is on the increase in some areas; there is greater lay involvement in parishes as a result of the stewardship programme; and there are more vocations across the Diocese than we have seen for many years. Investment in Together in Faith will address 4 pressing needs – each having a significant influence on our daily religious practise and commitment to our faith: (1) Invest in the on-going formation and care of the clergy during their working lives and especially in retirement. (2) Support seminarians and promote vocations. (3) Assist lay formation, especially in the training of catechists and other lay ministers to help with the preparation for the sacraments. (4) Provide for specific local parish needs.
It
is important to build on this progress, strengthening our faith and Church for
the future. While the Diocese’s current financial situation is good, as we look
to the future needs of the community, our collective finances will require
continued growth of our resources throughout the Diocese. In fulfilling the
mission of the Lord, Bishop Peter, my fellow priests and I need your help. I
give my support to, and endorse Bishop Peter Doyle’s decision to proceed with
this initiative. As Roman Catholics, we are called to embrace the challenge of
meeting these needs; we are challenged to respond to the Lord’s call to prepare
the Church and Diocese for the coming decades – to support this special
endeavour. In our parish, Together in Faith will help us to maintain the fabric of our buildings.
To date, we have had tremendous success. Our total stands at £60,000 from an incredible 15 gifts reflecting 45% towards our initial target of £130,000. This overwhelming response is the result of some of our generous parishioners and the great work of our leadership team members.
I am asking you to please consider supporting this undertaking. We invite each parishioner to respond to the urgent needs that all of us as Catholics face. Our success depends upon you, the parishioners, because we are all in this together. Together we grow and together we will fulfil the mission of the church. Early next week, each of you who has not already been contacted, will receive additional information about Together in Faith. In the coming weeks, we will be contacting you to respectfully ask you to consider supporting Together in Faith for St Teresa’s. When a member of the parish family calls on you – on my behalf – please welcome them and say ‘yes’ to support this most important project for our Diocese. In the meantime, our Together in Faith leadership team and I are available to answer any questions you may have, please call the Presbytery 01844 345578.
Please pray for the success of Together in Faith. I am deeply appreciative of your support to date and grateful for your consideration of my request.
PARISH BIBLE GROUP Please read the little information sheet that will be offered to you as you leave Mass today, and please consider popping into the clubroom any time between 8pm and 9pm this Thursday (15th) so that you can get a better feel for what the group does and how it might be of interest to you or someone you know.
