DAMAGE LIMITATION A truly strong person is one who is able to forgive. God’s strength is His readiness to forgive. In the parable of the
wheat and the darnel, the owner allows the darnel to grow alongside the wheat.
He does not destroy the darnel at this stage for fear that the wheat also may
be damaged. God gives the evil man time to repent.
PARISH
CRICKET AND GARDEN PARTY Many thanks to all who contributed towards the success of
the parish day last Sunday, especially James and Margaret Cripps who welcomed
us into their home. A good day was had by all.
I confess
“THROUGH MY FAULT, THROUGH MY FAULT, THROUGH MY MOST GREVIOUS FAULT” ……………………..
This change in the “I confess” directly translates the
Latin. Many people who knew the Latin Mass will often say “mea
culpa, mea culpa, mea
maxima culpa” when they take responsibility for a mistake. Whenever we repeat
something we clearly emphasise what we are saying. There is a classical
tradition too of repeating things three times as a poetic form. You find this
in the Lord have mercy, and the Lamb of God. You will notice too in other prayers like the Gloria
where one thought is expressed in three or more different but similar ways. We
will never have enough words to describe who God is, or how we relate to His
love and mercy.
EMERGENCY
APPEAL ON BEHALF OF C.A.F.O.D.
Given the gravity of the situation in East Africa the
UK’s Emergency Committee (DEC) of which CAFOD is a member, have launched an
appeal with immediate effect. As part of this response CAFOD is launching its
own £5m appeal. CAFOD has over 30 years experience working across East Africa
and they are confident that their partners are well placed to respond to this
emergency. CAFOD are acutely aware of the many demands being placed on parishes
and of the financial pressure being suffered by so many people in our community
at this time, but ask you to give what you can, if you can. Thank you. (Gift
Aid envelopes and pens are placed in amongst the pews, more in the Narthex if
needed).
KEY HOLDERS So that we can update our records, could those parishioners who hold a
key to any of the parish buildings please fill in the form on the notice board
in the Narthex.
WE HAVE a wheelchair
(currently in the Presbytery) and are happy to lend it to any parishioner
needing one , it is light, and folds to fit into a car
boot. Speak to Fr. John, Polly or any of the Deacons if you have need of it.
JULY WINNERS
OF THE CHURCH DEVELOPMENT FUND DRAW Twice a year, July and December the prize
money is higher, so well done to Anne Bowe who has won 1st prize and
to Pat Roberts who has won 2nd prize. Cheques are in the post.
THOSE GOOD
PEOPLE WHO WATCH OVER OUR CHURCH each morning so that it can be left unlocked, are taking
their summer break as of Friday 15th July and will start again the
first week of September. This would be a very good time to say “thank you” on
behalf of the parish.
